About this Event

Step into a world of myth and creativity at the Adopt a Dragon – Easter Event at Oxford Castle & Prison this Easter.

Young adventurers and their adults are invited to join the Dragon Masters for an imaginative family experience where children can learn about Oxford’s dragon lore, decorate their own dragon egg, design a cosy nest and ultimately adopt a soft‑toy dragon to take home complete with an official adoption certificate.

Plan Your Visit

  • Children aged 3–7, though older dragon enthusiasts are welcome too.
  • Sessions are small and interactive, giving every child the chance to meet the Dragon Masters and enjoy the activities.
  • Children must attend with an adult.
  • This event ticket does not include the castle guided tour, but you can book a tour separately if you'd like to explore more of the site.
  • Pushchairs cannot enter the historic building but can be left safely at reception.

Each session lasts approximately 50–60 minutes.

Yes. All children must attend with an adult aged 18 or above. Additional adult tickets can be added during checkout.

No. The event is a separate ticketed activity and does not include the guided tour or St George’s Tower. If you would like to join the daily general tour as well, we recommend it’s recommended to leave at least 20 minutes between bookings. For example, if your Adopt a Dragon session begins at 11:00 and lasts around 50–60 minutes, we recommend booking a guided tour from 12:20 onwards.

No, a general admission ticket is not required for the event.

Yes, spaces are limited and sessions regularly sell out. We strongly recommend booking in advance to avoid disappointment.

Due to the historic building layout, prams and pushchairs cannot fit through some doors and must be left at reception during the event. Please note that prams, pushchairs and any items left with them are left at the owner’s discretion, and Oxford Castle & Prison cannot accept responsibility for any loss, theft or damage.

Please aim to arrive around 5 minutes before your session time so the activity can begin promptly and children do not miss any part of the experience. If you arrive more than 10 minutes late, entry may not be possible and refunds cannot be guaranteed. If you think you may be late, please contact us as soon as possible.

If you need to cancel or change your booking, please contact us at info@oxfordcastleandprison.co.uk or call 01865 260663 as soon as possible. Changes may be possible depending on availability. Please note that bookings cancelled within 48 hours of the event are non-refundable.

Each standard ticket includes 1 child and 1 adult, with the option to add extra adult tickets when booking. You can add extra adults for £2.50pp during check-out.
