About this Event

You are cordially invited to join Sir Robert D'Oyly for an exciting quest this summer, where you will have the opportunity to train as his trusted knights in the art of medieval battle. 

Once you’ve been trained, you will be knighted and presented with your own sword to take home!

What to Expect

  • Train with Sir Robert D’Oyly to become one of his trusted knights.
  • Enjoy one hour of action‑packed training led by our Head Knight or Sir Robert D’Oyly in the Oxford Castle & Prison courtyard
    Learn essential knightly skills, including: 
    • Sword handling and combat techniques.
    • Shield mastery.
    • Archery practice.
    • Jousting techniques.
  • Take part in a ceremonial knighting and receive your very own wooden sword to take home.

Frequently Asked Questions

Designed for children aged 5 to 11 years, though older children who are interested are welcome.

Each session lasts approximately 60 minutes.

Yes. All children must attend with an adult aged 18 or above. Additional adult tickets can be added during checkout.

No. The event is a separate ticketed activity and does not include the guided tour or St George’s Tower. If you would like to join the daily general tour as well, we recommend it’s recommended to leave at least 20 minutes between bookings. For example, if your Knight training begins at 11:00 and lasts around 60 minutes, we recommend booking a guided tour from 12:20 onwards.

No, a general admission ticket is not required for the event.

Yes, spaces are limited and sessions regularly sell out. We strongly recommend booking in advance to avoid disappointment.

Prams and pushchairs are welcome at this outdoor event. Please be aware that any personal belongings left unattended in the courtyard or gift shop are left at the owner’s discretion. Oxford Castle & Prison cannot accept responsibility for loss, theft or damage.

Please aim to arrive around 5 minutes before your session time so the activity can begin promptly and children do not miss any part of the experience. If you arrive more than 10 minutes late, entry may not be possible and refunds cannot be guaranteed. If you think you may be late, please contact us as soon as possible.

If you need to cancel or change your booking, please contact us at info@oxfordcastleandprison.co.uk or call 01865 260663 as soon as possible. Changes may be possible depending on availability. Please note that bookings cancelled within 48 hours of the event are non-refundable.

Each standard ticket includes 1 child and 1 adult, with the option to add extra adult tickets when booking. You can add extra adults for £2.50pp during check-out.
