Oxford Open Doors

On Saturday 9 and Sunday 10 September, venues across Oxford will participate in Oxford Preservation Trust’s annual event, Oxford Open Doors, aiming to showcase the wonderful heritage the city has to offer.

We have an absolutely packed weekend of events courtesy of Oxford Preservation trust with something for everyone!

What’s on

 

Saturday

Oxford Silver Band (throughout the day)
City of Oxford Silver Band will be performing at Oxford Castle on Saturday and Wheatley Windmill on Sunday. They welcome new players of all ages and all abilities, so come and see, enjoy the music, and learn about how you could play with them.
Performances 12:00 – 12.45 and 13:15 – 14:00

Stone carving event: 9:00- 17:00
Come along and watch expert stone carvers at work, including Alex Wenham, award-winning stone carver based in Oxford, who created art for St Paul’s cathedral, the Houses of Parliament and many Oxford Colleges

Climb the mound for free! 10.00-17:00
Climb the mound of the 11th century motte-and-bailey castle with its 13th century well chamber. The view from the top is fabulous!

Sunday

Ghaetta Medieval Band 09:00 – 12:00
Ghaetta is a music group that like playing lively Medieval and Renaissance dance music. They dress up in brightly coloured costumes and play on replica Renaissance and modern instruments at concerts, festivals Medieval Banquets and other celebrations!

Classic Cars in the Castleyard 10:00 – 16:00
Classic cars get your engine running? We’ll have a pleasing paddock of pedigree cars lined up in the Castleyard for all you petrolheads.

Climb the mound for free! 10.00-17:00
Climb the mound of the 11th century motte-and-bailey castle with its 13th century well chamber. The view from the top is fabulous!

Free tours of Oxford Castle & Prison (Sunday only) 10.00-17.00
Step inside and do 1000 years of history! Free tours every 20 minutes from 10:00 to 17:00. You can reserve your spot for all Sunday tours from 10.00 at the Castle – first come first serve!

And that’s just the start! There is a huge amount happening across Oxford, with over 110 doors opening across the city. It really is your chance to explore bits of our hidden city that are usually off-limits!
