Vikings at Oxford Castle

The Vikings are coming! Step back over a thousand years to the beginnings of Oxford in 1000CE when our tower was first built.  

Learn first-hand about historical weapons such as the formidable Dane axe, and try your hand at some battle moves. Then take to the field to join the shield wall and fend off the enemy! Great for adults and children alike, our sessions are capped at 12 tickets for each time slot so you’ll have plenty of chances to hold and try-out the weapons.

As well as our ticketed weapon handling sessions, we’ll also have live demonstrations of Viking and Anglo Saxon crafts in the Castleyard, including literacy and medical displays as well as authentic textile crafts bringing the past to life.
